Home Made Horse Treats Without Molasses

If you own a horse that has an allergy to molasses, you know how difficult it is finding a molasses free treat and or feed.

Jadon's sensitivity to molasses led us to an online search for a home-made treat that did not contained molasses.

I would like to share one of the recipes that I found on my search.

Horse Oat Cookies

1/2 cup flour
1/4 tea baking powder
1/4 tea baking soda
1/4 cup oil
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 T milk
1/4 tea vanilla
1/4 cup uncooked regular oatmeal
1-1/2 cups grated carrots

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on un-greased cookie sheet. Bake for 15 minutes. Cool for one hour.

Brown Sugar Contains Molasses

May your horses enjoy!
God Bless!

  5. I made them for when I went to riding camp and the horses would always bug me when I walked paste 'em! Also it works with all vegetables, cause I didn't have carrots so I used cucumbers!

  7. This looks like a good recipe! I made these AMAZING horse treats for the horses at my barn and they absolutely LOVED them!! I used cut up peppermint candy canes, apple sauce (original), cut up pieces of apple, small slices of carrots, and mixed it ALL together!! They came out soft and moist! The only problem was that if you do not feed them to your horses and leave them, they will turn moldy and gross!!!! So, try my recipe and make sure YOU DO NOT LET THEM GET MOLDY AND THEN FEED THEM TO YOUR HORSE! They will most likely get sick. Well have fun! Try my recipe PLEASE!!

  8. I will have to give these a try!! My mare is also very allergic to molasses and you're right it is SOOO difficult to find treats without that in it! To top it off, she's also allergic to soy and alfalfa so GOOD LUCK finding anything my poor girl will eat! :( Hope she likes these!! :)

    1. If your horse is over weight and you can't help your self from giving her treats then feed her little bits of apple or carrot, not treats with added sugar in them! :)

  14. If I Were To Make These, How Long Would They Keep For Before Finally Going Off?

  15. If you see them start to get moldy get rid of them.Don't ever feed moldy food to a animal. I can't give you an expiration date, just keep an eye on them. We made little batches at a time so we never had that problem.
